Change is Necessary

Last week, in a matter of a day or so, the temperature in Pittsburgh went from 63 degrees to single digits, the sun-filled skies produced six inches of snow, and I closed one chapter of my career to embark on a new opportunity running my own company. The common theme here is change, which has me thinking about how we experience change.
When I was leading organizational change at one non-profit, we spent a lot of time talking about how we process change, but not enough time talking about what change really is. In many sessions, we talked about how change is hard and uncomfortable. While that may sometimes be true, we should not forget that change happens all around us in our everyday lives, and it can be beautiful and exciting. Change is experienced in the joy that a warm spring day brings as we dig out of the depths of winter, or when the leaves change to brilliant colors after the dog days of summer. Change is natural, and it is necessary for growth and development – in nature, and in our personal and professional lives.
Over the last year, I found myself thinking a lot about my professional growth and the change that I was desiring to see in my career. I was blessed to be a part of a fast growing company with talented people. I was blessed to be able to build and lead a highly skilled team of professionals that will carry on the work we were doing after my departure. I was blessed to expand my network and meet new people who would challenge me to pursue the change I was seeking in my career. It was over this last year that I truly began to embrace change, and seek it out as an exciting opportunity. I've come to discover that without change, we cannot move forward. Without change, we stand still. We want to see progress – in our lives, and in the world around us.
Friday was my last day working with my Luna team. It's bittersweet, as I have enjoyed mentoring this group of young professionals at the various stages of their careers and will miss them dearly. And yet, I am excited about the prospects that await me in this new venture. I eagerly anticipate connecting with many young professionals, across various industries, and I look forward to helping those people discover new opportunities. I have faith that there is a God-given plan for my life, and I am open to following the path that is before me.
My new venture provides me with the opportunity to partner with a like-minded person, Eric Harvey, who shares many of my core values, and wants to create positive change in the world. Together, we will create exceptional strategies for companies looking to hire the best and brightest talent. We will connect people with careers based on a balanced approach to employer-employee fit, and help underserved populations of people seeking meaningful employment to explore quality opportunities. These are lofty goals, but the one thing they all have in common is change. We will be agents of change, and we will keep moving forward by continually learning, constantly improving, and always seeking progress.
We are Progress City. Nice to meet you.
